We have been blogging and lobbying against Bill C23 and now Bill C10 for over one year but it seems the Conservative govt. is poised to pass the Bill without any regard to the opposing views.
The good news is that Pardons are NOT going away. Record Suspensions (proposed new name for Pardons) will still have the same affect as a Pardon which is to remove the criminal record from public record so that the person will be safe for employment and travel.
The bad news is that wait times to be eligible for a Pardon will be extended and certain criminal charges, mainly sexual assaults against a minor will no longer be pardonable. The fees for the approval of the Pardons will also increase dramatically.
Here is a recent article titled “Pardons Application Expected to Tumble” that highlights some of the changes proposed in Bill C10 that will affect Pardons.

this is not democracy, when after 10 years i now applied for a pardon, not realising i had to after paying for a lousy drunk driving charge here in Quebec! that i needed to ask for this pardon on top of my costs previously paid and still after 13 months a certain quebec party police dept. was leave of absense state and no one else could perform his/her responsabilitys!!!? while i suffer after applying for job after job but no reply cause of criminal background checks found me a criminal still!!! so no hope to apply anymore until this stupid longwaiting bureaucracy is finalised I am 54 years old and need to relocate out of quebec ,yet trapped by this canadian/engish/french provincial communication predjudism as a minority trapped in french quebec that oppresses anglophones especially!who is resposable to move my pardon request faster so to not become a worse criminal than i am being ignored forgotten,so long?

Im a 27 year old man from Ontario. I was arrested four years ago on drug charges and it has haunted me ever since. Ive served two years in jail, I’ve done all my probation time and have met all of my conditions yet I cannot find employment anywhere as anytime I get close to it – my past mistakes are discovered and all hopes of getting off Ontario Works dashed… Is this really what rehabilitation is about in this country? Holding people down for years upon years so that they cannot improve their situation at all and are forced into commiting crime just to support themselves? I hope that Pardons Canada can help me… and soon…. because if this government gets their way I will carry this stin for the rest of my life.
