Pardons Canada – DUI, Impaired Driving, Over 80 Can Be Very Costly

www.pardons.org

Many people who are charged with a DUI are surprised at the cost.  Fines, legal fees, insurance, rehabilitation costs and other miscellaneous expenses can add up to tens of thousands of dollars.

In addition to a heavy financial cost, there is aslo a risk of losing employment opportunities or having difficulty with travel.

Thankfully, our country gives us a second chance by way of a Canada Pardon.  Once the charge is removed with a pardon, it will no longer show up on a criminal background check.  You will then be safe for work and travel purposes.

Here is an email we recently received from someone who is seeking to obtain a Pardon for a recent DUI:

“I plead guilty to an over 80 charge (Impaired charge was removed) on September 16th, 2010 so I could reduce my driving penalty to 3 months with a 9 month interlock device.  I was originally charged on October 22, 2008. “

“I do travel extensively throughout the US for my work, it so far has not been an issue, but I do hold my breath every time I cross (it hasn’t been long since my guilty plea – and that may have something to do with the fact it has not come up…yet). “

“This obviously is a relatively new charge so I’m wondering if there is something that can be done so early from a pardons perspective.  This mistake has caused me to appear in court 9 times, $12000 in legal fees, denial of Nexus, assessment and rehab requirements, immediate loss of license for 90 days at time of the charge, another 90 reduced suspension, 9 month interlock period, install, rental and de-install of the device for a total of about $1500, $1300 fine and a criminal record – not to mention unforeseen insurance hikes and employment limit.”

I was refused to drive into the United States because of an incident that occurred 14 years ago when I was 18. I was driving with 3 bottles of beer on the back seat not even opened and for having a pound of Marijuana for my own personal use. Apparently at that time I was busted for having 3 bottles of beer in the car and drug trafficking. I was not under the influenced but I got stopped by the cops for having snow on my license plate. The officer gladly removed the snow off the plate before he approached me and tapped on the glass and that is when he discovered the 3 beer on the back seat. I was searched and thats when he found a pound of pot in my winter coat pouch pocket. The cop arrested me and had me finger printed and photographed at the station and the cop even had the nerve to ask me how good is Mary-Jane…I know that cop snitched some of the weed for a fact cause when I got into court the crown prosecutor said I only had 20 grams of weed. I flipped out and said BS I had a pound and that the arresting officer took some of the evidence. I then cursed on the judge and told the crown she was a moron and I was then charged with contempt. In all I was convicted with three charges. Pardons Canada really helped me get rid of that record. So glad to have the ability to have another chance of having a clean slate. I still smoke pot, I just leave it a home now!
