Under new regulations coming into affect this August 2010, a guilty plee to a DUI or Impaired Driving charge within a short time period can result in shorter driving suspension penalties.
We receive many calls from Canadians who wish to obtain a Canada Pardon for a DUI or Impaired Driving charge. We often hear how they were not informed of their right to seek a Canada Pardon once they have plead guilty and stayed out of trouble for the required time horizon.
Often they have paid large fees to lawyers to try and fight the criminal charge and many still get convicted. Having a criminal record for DUI or Impaired Driving can limit your ability to get work as most employers are conducting criminal background checks for hiring and promotions. Also, it can get in the way of traveling safely to the US.
Once a Pardon is granted, your criminal record will not be available for public record and you may continue on with your life without the burden of carrying a criminal record.
Below is an exerpt from the new regulation coming into affect August 2010:
“Under the proposed Conduct Review Program, drivers who meet the eligibility requirements and successfully enter the ‘conduct review’ program will have their licence suspension adjusted to as little as 3 months for a first offence. The proposed details of the new program were posted on March 25, 2010 on the Ontario Government website. It is found at (http://www.ontariocanada.com/registry/view.do?postingId=3082). To be eligible, the driver must plead guilty and be sentenced within 90 days of the date that the offence took place. “
